Dec 30, 2013 7:24 AM in response to Joe_Foby Somethingood27,Good news! The scotch taped definitely worked. I wasn't even able to register my thumb print (for some reason, no matter what I did on any finger, the middle 4 lines in the thumb print would refuse to register) and after applying the scotch tape... I was able to register 5 finger prints on 5 different fingers without a problem. Not sure what's so special about the scotch tape, but it works.

[snip]By "Scan your preferred finger at least three times in different positions" do you mean to take up three of the five TID slots with one finger? If so, you will very likely have better success using one--and only one--slot with one finger. TID is greatly affected by multiple slots being used. In my expereince (and Joe_Fo's and others) using one slot works best by far, even though TID was obviouly designed to allow up to five.

Dec 30, 2013 7:39 PM in response to mrsnorkby ShrinkRap,Does the Scotch Tape trick use the old-fashioned clear tape or the matte-finish "Magic" tape?

I used the old-fashioned clear tape on mine and it now works like a charm. My iPhone 5s looks like garbage now, but hey, it works.

Good luck with that.
I tried the tape idea, thinking it somehow defused finer details, focusing more on better defined print data. Worked for all of 24 hours. It even reduced my right thumb enrolled Dec 1 whicj worked 100% to a 95% failure. Tape enrolled thumb failed 100%, slowly over the 24 hours...
Might work for you (for some unknown, unproven reason) but all prints are different, and with whatever S/W bug there is which corrupts all with more than one finger enrolled, it will be amazing if it holds up for long.

I'm sorry to hear that your iphone is still giving you problems. My scotch tape is still working great for me and I have a 100% scan success rate. I wonder what the geniuses would say if I brought it in though.

No, my phone works fine, has done so since early Oct. As long as only one finger is enrolled following the method I showed in the YouTube video that is. All other methods I've tried, for me at least, have not held up over time.
Glad the tape works for you, it just didn't for me for long.

Jan 2, 2014 10:44 AM in response to Dreanmachine1by Cambo III,Same problem. Rescanned may times, tried the multiple scan, tried the scotch tape....it's GOTTA be software, because it definitely works great for a few hours. I'm going to an Apple appointment today, and they'll PROBABLY give me a new phone...I'm a bass player, so some of my fingers are pretty beat up, but my girfriends hands are soft and lovely and definitely NOT beaten up, and she has exactly the same problem. Will report back with (probably) a new phone.
Happy New Year,
Cameron

Jan 2, 2014 11:31 AM in response to Joe_Foby Frankswan,Happy New Year all and here's to a solution this year!!
Since enrolling my thumb using Joes methods (early Dec) it works well when my hands are warm usually when indoors.
When cold (outside?) not so good.
I then enrolled both thumbs as per the method mentioned earlier in this discussion (right then left etc in the same installation) this has worked well for my left thumb but not at all for my right.
I also installed my right finger which works best now for about the passed 2 weeks.
A pal of mine signs into his work by using a finger print pad approx 1"x1" this he said works about 85% of the time.
It seems Apple are not the only company to have probs with this method. So I would say its a lot to do with the condition of your skin at time of use, me warm 'good' cold 'bad'!!
All these installations are on my phone (3)

Jan 2, 2014 12:42 PM in response to Dreanmachine1by Rich Basecki,Hi;
I have the same problem. see my thread at https://discussions.apple.com/message/24263459#24263459.
With help from Apple Genius I earased all my fingerprints, re-recorded two and it worked maybe two or three days.
Now I am basically using numberic pad to open iPhone. TouchID seems to be useless.
Does anyone have idea how to fix it? Is it dependendt on the actaul iPhone hardware? If I get replacement iPhone will itr help?

Hi Rich,
New phone will not help, more than likely.
See this thread, and only enroll one finger or thumb, and use only one of the 5 available slots. Also follow the link to the YouTube video I posted. It's on the first page. It should help.

Jan 2, 2014 1:19 PM in response to Dreanmachine1by djaysteven,I'm not sure if I'm the only one but reading this forum it seems most people are like me :
Bought first phone new and worked FLAWLESS for 3 weeks!!! Hot cold wet using all the time day and
Night with any apps in background and u name it, weather here in Thailand is always hot but in my room
With Aircon on ... All the same worked PERFECT wich amazed me for weeks was so happy about it.,
With my second 5s (first one got stolen :( it was worse, worked once again for about
A week FLAWLESS and after same old story, tried every method several items reported here
(Except the tape one lol) rather leave it unlocked :-)
I never use any case ever.. And I have screen protector on both since day 1 so can't
Imagine it's because of that as it worked guess what .. Perfect for 3 weeks..
So how many on this tread had failures from day 1? That is the big question here
Coz to me if it works few weeks without problems how can all our fingers suddenly
Change *_*
So strange do that it's only with a percentage of users .. Or will they have problems later
As they are lower on memory users? No idea but it surely frustrates me..
One last add : with my first one I added 5 different fingers once in a rather in-careful way
Just following what the phone told me.. And that worked fine for weeks so.. Is it about registering?
Don't think so......
Hope we all get relieved from this with a nice (jailbreakable) update haha

Jan 2, 2014 8:16 PM in response to Dreanmachine1by linda.petaluma,First phone replaced because Touch ID failed completely. Touch ID worked for a few days on the new phone but now rarely works. I deleted and rescanned 1 finger following Joe's YouTube video. Gold phone, no film, Apple leather cover. I have worn fingerprints. Touch ID is worthless! I'll call Support again this weekend for 1 more try. My guess is that it's lousy software, but I'm not an engineer. Just wish Apple would fix this!

Sorry to hear it's not working for you. Are you aware of the S/W bug (like, but not limited to, Twitter) that can at times cause TID to totally fail to read a print, and can verify that's not the problem you're seeing?
Is your finger working on the TID "Add a Fingerprint" screen?
