17 Inch Studio Display, will it work the new iMac

I'm presently running a Powerbook G4 1.33 that I also use with a 17 inch studio display. I'm looking at picking up a new intel iMac and I'm wondering if it will be able to use the other screen like I do with my Powerbook. I don't want it to mirror but rather I want to be able to have two seperate screens. I was told it would work, but I'm just making sure. Also, if it does work, do I need some fancy adaptor (like I had to buy with my Powerbook) or is it just a different cable.

Thanks

PowerBook G4 1.3
