How clear games internet etc that you have been looking at to save battery

How clear history from your ipad, used to double click the button and they would appear along the bottom of the page, then you held your finger on the program a minus sign appeared and you could delete them. Then the iOS update happened and it all chafed. I need to know how to do it now?
