Safari app crashing

I updated to iOS7 on my iphone 4S on the first day and had to do a restore and reinstall as the music and video apps didn't work - at all. Since then - apart from losing some important data from several apps that hadn't backed up all - all has been well.

Yesterday I noticed Safari had become very very laggy - to the point where I had to install Chrome just to get on the web. I tried switching Safari off in iCloud - not a perfect solution as I like to sync reading lists and bookmarks, but this seemed to fix it for a while.

Today it is unusable. I click on the icon - the Safari screen appears for a few seconds and crashes back to the home page. I don't now if this has co-incided with the 7.0.2 update - I wasn't even aware it had been installed!

I've tried reset, clear history etc.. I'm loathe to do another restore after the last experience.

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Minimise the safari app by tapping the home button when safari is open. Go to settings/safari and clear history and cache. Double tap home button and then swipe up on the Safari app to close it and then open safari again and see if it is any better

Thanks - this has stopped the app from crashing, but it's gone back to it's vegetative state. It's slow to the point of being impossible to use. I'm currently on a decent 3G connection (Chrome is lightning fast) and have over 3 gig space free on the phone.

try

RESET DEVICE

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).

As mentioned - I'd already tried a reset, but I've given it another go - and now Safari has reverted to crashing again.

Maybe you could try a restore using itunes. Make sure you have everything backed up and that your contacts are saved in some other way to be sure, transfer your photos to your computer and transfer all purchases to itune son your computer before you restore

After you restore you can use the backup to get things back the way they were

Looks like I'll have to - although as I've mentioned I've already done that once since installing IOS7 and it doesn't really expain how it's suddenly stopped working after initially being ok after the upgrade.

Well if you do restore you will end up with ios 7.0.2 if you dont have that already

After a full restore Safari still isn't working properly. If I could make Chrome the default browser it would be nice, but of course that's not possible. Not at all impressed with the ios7 experience so far.

I've fixed it after finding a similar problem reported elsewhere on ipad.

In settings I went to Safari and changed the favourites folder it was accessing.

I then switched off Safari in icloud.

Everything worked again.

Seems to be an issue with icoloud syncing bookmarks.

I've toggled safari back on in icloud and all is well.

It has worked perfectly for me. I did two things. First, from settings I erased the safari history. Secondly, using mail app I opended a web adress link to safari.

The specs of my phone is.

iphone 5 64g

os 8.4
