My iPad no longer sounds an alert for new email. Has anyone had this problem?

I have used to get a bell sound when new mail came into my mailbox, but it no longer sounds even though I have the settings showing a new mail sound.

iPad, iOS 7.0.2

If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.

System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.

Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.

If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.

If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.

If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

This solved my problem. Thanks. I notice that when you swipe the control panel, it is very easy to accidentally turn on or off the controls at the top of the panel. Now that I'm aware of it, I'll be more careful in the future.

Another question: the alert now sounds, but only when I open mail. Is there a way to get the sound to alert you to a new email when mail is closed. I think I changed some of the mail settings and no longer seem to get the alert.

You have to set your email for Push notifications if you want to be alerted when a new email arrives. Just be aware that this has a slight effect on your battery as would any feature that you want to work in the background or that you do not initiate on your own.

Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>Fetch New Data>On>Push>On. Then set Fetch for the time frame that you want the iPad to check the server for email. The less frequently that you Fetch, the less the drain on the battery.

My iPad no longer sounds an alert for new email. Has anyone had this problem?
