Why won't my imessage allow me to send messages?

My imessage was working perfectly about 3 days ago. Whenever I try and send an imessage to any of my friends it just constantly stays at "sending". I end up having to send the message as a "text message", which I know sometimes has a hard time getting to the sender. I know it's not my connection, i've driven about 2 hours away from my home, and it's still the same. I recently downloaded the new iOS 7.0.2. Please help, it's pretty frustrating.
