Internal HDD temperature sensor cable

Hi All,

Hopefully someone can help me.

Recently I replaced my HDD in my 2009 27" iMac, however I discovered the HDD temperature sensor cable does not fit my new WD drive. Originally a Seagate drive was installed. I have heard about people running software and what not but I would like to get the cable right. So could someone please link me to an appropriate cable i dont care if it is second hand. Even if someone could tell me a model number of their 21.5" or 27" imac that shipped with a WD drive because then I might be able to source one from a broken device?

Cheers

I was faced with similiar problems to you guys, my solution was to use an optical temp sensor, which is how they used to do it back before the 21.5 & 27 imacs were launched, they can be found at second hand websites such as ebay (where i got mine ), you won't be able to find a correct cable for your WD drive if it did not ship with an iMac as the cables and HDDs have been modified by Apple and will not fit on a run of the mill drive.

I would get a second hand optical sensor, unless you purchase a Seagate HDD that shipped with an iMac you will never be able to connect that temp cable to it.

Here are optical sensors that should work if you swapped out the original cable on the logic board:

Or you can always go with fan control:http://exirion.net/ssdfanctrl/

It is virtually impossible to find the right cable unfortunately so good luck!
