I press the on button and nothing happens for sometimes 5-10minutes. Then actually turns on and takes a little while to load but once on its good. The track pad however is also a bit dodgy, it doesnt move acurrately it jumps around. Any advice?

Sounds like you have one or more hardware problems. You should take it to Apple and show them what is happening and get an estimate on repairing it.

That all depends on what is wrong. I suspect it has something to do with the hard drive but it could also be a Logic board problem. Hard drives are fairly inexpensive to replace. Logic boards much more. The only people that can properly diagnose the problem or problems is Apple or a Appple authorized repair center. Apple itself, at an Apple store, don't charge anything for diagnoses. The authorized repair centers usually do charge a fee to look at your Mac.
