Time Capsule W/Seagate HD
Has anybody upgraded the TC 4th Gen. HD with the Seagate Barracuda 7200 ST3000DM001 3TB or the Hitachi (HGTS) Deskstar 2TB
Instead of the WD Green without a problem, like temperature or anything else?
Best Regards

I have used both Seagate and Hitachi drives.. maybe not those models.. either drive should work ok.. the one issue might be spin down.
The TC is very flexible in the drive.. it is not much of a hassle.. just you do not want an enterprise type drive that has high current consumption.. you want green spec drives.
Is there something wrong with the WD green??
The WD green I have is getting full (WD 1TB) and I have a spare Seagate (3TB) and the Hitachi (2TB) that I could use if they would not harm the TC such as temperature, noise and more power usage that could shorten the life of the TC. If it's a problemm, then I would connect an external drive to the USB port of the TC. and keep the WD green inside of the TC.
Thanks for the reply
The current figures are written on the drive.. just compare them to the WD green.
The WD should be at least 2TB for Gen4 TC..
If it is 1TB it must be a Gen3.. unless you changed the drive at some time.
I wrote up some info and changing drives.

When you are replacing a drive you can do some partitioning which is normally impossible.
Thanks LaPastenague.
I'll check the figures when I get home tonight. My TC is the 4th gen (used) that I purchased without a drive, thats why I have the 1TB green that I installed while ago.
This TC works very well, and does not get as hot as the one I had before (2nd Gen). Maybe because I removed the rubber mat from the base and raised 1 inch w/ 4 alluminun feet that I made.
Thanks for your help
I forgot to mention that the WD I have installed is the 1TB WD10EARS and works fine, just a bit noise when spinning.
