Q: Settings needed for Mail on iPad

Thanks for the question. I understand that you are able to Archive email messages, but cannot delete them. You can turn off the Archive feature if your provider allows it, the following article outlines how to do so. While the article speaks of Gmail accounts, the same steps apply for other accounts:

You can disable this feature in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Gmail Account > Account > Advanced > Move Discarded Messages Into:
