ios7 bluetooth issues with BMW

I updated to iOS 7 last week on my iPhone 5, in which I've only experienced problems when paired with my BMW. Detailed below:

  1. While phone is in use (via Bluetooth), any occupant of my vehicle can clearly hear a persistent chirp coming from the speakers (over voice);
  2. While streaming music, tracks are skipping as if a CD is attempting to continue playback after hitting a bump; and
  3. Prior to upgrading from iOS 6, my music seamlessly picked up with the exact track (and location) where I previously left off

I initially believed that code had been built-in for iTunes Radio to began by default until I realized that it was literally music from my library playing in a schuffled sequence...and I have created zero playlists within iTunes Radio for music to even stream.

I've done multiple hard resets of my phone; removed my phone from my car all together before pairing again; and updated to iOS 7.0.2, although nothing seems to correct this.

Has anyone experienced any of these issues, and if so, any success in resolving?

Hello brandiatl,

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your car stereo after updating to iOS 7.

In my experience, when updates are released for iOS devices, compatible devices release an update to maintain compatibility. Step 2 from the article below recommends checking with the manufacturer of your car stereo to see if there is a firmware update available for your car stereo:

2. Update software and firmware if necessary

Verify that both your car stereo and your device have the latest software versions. Contact the manufacturer to see if any updates are available. If your device does not have the latest version of the iOS, update to the latest software version.

I update my Iphone 5 to IOS7 and had no troubles at all with bluetooth. I then upgrades to iphone 5S (if you can say that´s an upgrade!) and my phone keeps discinnecting from bluetooth. I drive a BMW X5 2012. Apple support has no clue on how to resolve. BMW does not have a fix. And they shouldn't, I think. They haven´t changes anything, it´s Apple who decided to up(down)grade.

My take on this is that Apple is rapidly becoming just like Microsfot....we have already 3 updates to IOS7, and many more to come...

You're absolutely correct in stating this is an Apple rather than a BMW issue. This is clearly a software glitch within iOs7. The Bluetooth protocol used for connections definitely did not change on the BMW side of the house . I suspect that it also didn't change within Apple's code...the code is simply very "buggy". BMW is not known to have a multitude of software or firmware updates as suggested above.

I'm experiencing the exact same issues after the IOS7 update in my BMW.

I tried to hook one of my ipod nano's up via the USB audio after experiencing issues and I was fine. I then decided to update my collection on my nano to use this as a music source in the interum.

While I was doing this I upgraded my software on the nano.

guess what? my nano no longer works in my car.

you can't blame this on bmw, it's apple all of the way. I'm looking forward to a fix.

I'm not very happy.

I had issues with playing music off of my iPhone after performing the upgrade to 7.0.3. I found that doing a clean install (restore / restore from backup) fixed the issue of playing the music loaded on the device.

Using streaming applications like iHeartRadio & the SiriusXM app still doesn't work. The bluetooth connection drops a couple of minutes in.

I'd like to see Apple fix this ASAP as I had zero issues doing all of these things in iOS6.

If you have idrive ,that is the issue ,.I have an 07 Z4 and 13 X1 both with Bluetooth both work flawlessly with iPhone 4 and iP5 both running iOS7.0.3 ,there is no flaw with iOS7

I do not have iDrive on either vehicle

If you take the time to trawl through the many posts on this precise subject

IIRC BWW hope to have a fix by year end and I also have one of the new media snap in cradles in X1 and that also functions flawlessly too whereas iDrive users are having issues

So Apple has to check with BMW before they move the technology ..You will wait a long time to have Apple fix a BMW issue that BMW are aware of .......................based on research other users have done with BMW and posted here

. My BMW software version has not changed, Apple's has.

Exactly

BWM have Apple developer status and will have known every detail of of iOS 7 and updates in the same way they had precise details of the iPhone 5 months before release yet have taken 12 months from release to produce the snap in cradle ,hardly at the top of their priorities it seems

Move to new technology? Do you have any idea how standards work? Bluetooth Smart v4 is a standard that device manufaturers support. Apple's iOS 6 & 7 supposedly support the standard. When you have the same physical piece of hardware (iPhone 5) and you change the software- resulting in a connection issue via a standard, you then look to the piece of software that was changed.

Same issue with me. I have a 5s and recently bought a 2013 528. After a few minutes on a call the bluetooth goes out. I never had this issue when I had my 328.

It's so annoying.

I spoke to a service advisor at BMW and he recommended upgrading to the latest ios7 software which I did today, but I havent' had a chance yet to try out the bluetooth.

Definitely sounds like a Apple issue.

Ok, here is an update to what I have found so far:

1) looks like a hardware problem, not software. iPhone 5 with IOS7 did not present issues. However IPhone 5s with IOS7 did.

2) In specific areas Bluetooth connectivity between the car and the phone is lost. Specifically when going out of my building garage.

By erasing the phone from the car and re-pairing and avoid using the phone on that specific post, I have managed to keep my connection working without issues.

Still using iPhone 5s, ios7.0.3 and iDrive patch for Iphone4s

I do not recommend installing iDrive patch for ios6. It makes the problem worst. Let's wait until the latest BMW idrive patch comes out.
