Will Airport Express extend my wifi with a Netgear dsl wifi router?

I have an AT&T 7550 dsl modem/router. Inside I believe it is a Netgear gateway product. I need to extend my wifi farther on to other side of home. I installed Airport Express with Airport Utility on my MAC and I can not get it show green light. I tried using ethernet cable directly to my Mac (on wifi). It still show amber and on Utility is say "Air station can not extend network" message when I click on the icon.

I am thinking it is not compatible with the Netgear router???? Should I get a Netgear Univeral WIFI Range extender?

If you want the connection between the Netgear and the AirPort to be wireless for the extended network, then that is correct, they are not compatible.

Yes, as both this device plus the gateway are from the same manufacturer, they should be compatible for this function.
