Diablo 2 and/or Doom 3 on a MacBook, good idea?

Well, these are the only games I'd play on the Macbook, D2 for sure Doom 3 might be changed for Prey, but anyways, I read somewhere that the MacBook can use up to 420something Mbs of ram for video, so can it run smoothly or will it crash and burn?

Share your stories with gaming on the MacBook, it will be appreciated.

Nope, intel GMA 950 manage to get 224 mb of shared memory.

I played Warcraft III, also from blizzard that create D2, and I believe it is heavier than D2, and I still can enjoy the game well. (a little chug here and there when there is a lot of army involved in the battle).

But it is still enjoyable, so I assume the D2 which is lighter then WIII will run just fine.

Good Luck.

The full power of the GMA950 is 224, which is almost 256 MBs of dedicated memory. Right now they have the GMA 950 capped to 64 MBs, which is a lot worse than 64 MBs of dedicated memory. So if the GMA 950 gets to 224 MBs, it will only be a little bit more powerful than 128 MBs of dedicated. Yes, apple has it to where it can get more graphics memory, but very rarely does it do that. I ran WoW when I borrowed 2 GBs of RAM from my dads intel iMac, and had it on low settings, and I have software where it says how much RAM is getting used and how much graphics is making, it was costing about 90 percent of the RAM, but only had about 32 of graphics memory getting produced. That just proves that Apple has capped the graphics memory to a low amount. Also the system requirements for WoW was a minimum of 32 MBs of VRAM, so maybe they capped the graphics to be set at the bare minumum of whatever task/tasks you are running.

"If u have 2 GB ram, it should run great, MacBook can run almost any new games great on medium - low settings, but in the future you probably arent going to be able to run any, unless there is a firmware update to unleash the true power of the Intel GMA950..."

This is plain incorrect. The 950 is a mediocre GPU and cannot run Doom III well even if it had 99999999Gb of dedicated memory. I've tried Doom III with 2Gb of Ram, and the game is virtually unplayable even at 640x480 with no shadows, lighting, effects, and with all textures at lowest quality.

It just proves that WoW used only 32MB, that's all, nothing else. Why it's another question, maybe because you reduced the graphics settings in WoW so it didn't ask for more.
