iphone 5s auto play icon in windows

I recently upgraded from the original iphone 4 to iphone 5s. No real problems but one thing I have noticed is when I sync the 5s via USB to my laptop the autoplay icon and also the icon that shows under 'my computer' has changed from a phone icon to a generic portable device icon. It all works fine and I can click and view all the pics, it's just the icon. On my old iphone 4 and current third gen iPad they display the phone or iPad icon under my computer rather than the generic icon.

Anyone notice the same?

Under iTunes the 5s device icon looks like a phone as it should. It's just under my computer that it's generic.

Anyone notice this at all with 5s. It's a mild irritation. My iPad still shows the iPad icon in windows explorer so it's not a ios 7.02 specific issue. Maybe the icon that displays is hard coded into the device itself. I know I am being over analysing but I would feel happier to know it's not just me and others see the same.

Apologies for following up but I would be very keen to know what others are seeing. I imagine people do still sync their iPhone 5s to windows via USB. My phone device name comes up correct in Windows Explorer/my computer as 'Waynes iPhone' bit the icon is generic. Do others see the proper phone icon or get the same generic portable device icon. Example of what I see is attached except mine comes up with 'Waynes iPhone' instead of 'Apple iPhone'. No such issue existed on my old iPhone 4 or my current third gen iPad. It's just the 5S that does this.

Hi Scottyboy99,

I too have the same issue as you and I also just upgraded from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5S.

If you or anyone else sorts this out please let me know as I too have the same problem since upgrading to the iPhone 5S.

Name is still correct although the icon is windows generic (as above). My previous iphone 4 diplayed the correct icon including the colour of the phone.

Call me fussy but I prefer to see the picture of the device attached

Not that it's much help, but I've noticed the same. I can't add an autorun file or icon to the root folder of the iPhone to change the icon, as you do with other devices under Windows 7.

A mild irritation, but still, I don't like seeing a generic phone after spending $$$ upgrading from an iPhone 4 to 5s.

Just change the registry value (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayH andlers\KnownDevices)

In the icon value put:

for the black iPhone 4S - "%SystemRoot%\system32\usbaaplrc.dll,-117"

for the white iPhone 4S - "%SystemRoot%\system32\usbaaplrc.dll,-118"

without "Quotes"

Is not the iphone 5s icon but is better than the "portable device" icon.

Thanks for this, but unfortunately this doesn't seem to work in Windows 8.1. I can make the change, but when I plugin the ipad/iphone, the icon changes back to the default square box.

Anyone have a fix for this?
