Q: iPhone still linked to old Apple ID

Hello,

I had an iPhone 4S which I sold to one of my friends, apparently the iPhone was linked to my Apple ID through "Find my iPhone".

A few days ago my friend upgraded to iOS7.02 and when the phone booted we see on the screen the following message:

"This iPhone is currently linked to an Apple ID (s*****@w*****.com). Sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up this iPhone"

Unfortunately this is a very old account which I don't use anymore and don't know the password for that account, but when I signed in to

http://www.icloud.com/find with my new Apple ID. I saw the iphone 4S under that accout and followed the manual to remove it so it

won't be linked to my account.

I have been waiting and also tried to restore the iPhone, still it asks for the old Apple ID...

What I can do to remove it and restore the iPhone?

Thank you in advanced.

Sharon

I have the same problem, I bought my iphone from apple online store, its 4s and its factory unlocked and I just upgrade to ios 7 few weeks ago and yesterday I reseted the iphone and erase all content and when i got the activation page its says that the apple ID is incorrect which something crazy cause my ID is the same ID I use on apple store and its working without any problems, I contacted apple customer services and they were unable to do anything and they scheduled an appointment for me with apple store in my city and I went there to the store and they are also unable to solve this problem and they told me that you have to use the same ID u used when activate this iphone first time.

they are really stuiped guys over there, imagine that the genious bar in apple store are unable to solve this issue

    how stuiped they are

You must have set the phone originally with a different ID.The geniuses are not telepaths. They cannot "come up" with information that you chose and set on your phone. (Your apple ID and password). You are responsible for remembering your passwords.

If you are having problems with your apple ID, try to reset the password. If not contat the Apple Security team.

No. You cannot downgrade to iOS 6.

"You have a very expensive piece of paper weight."

People who work for or are deeply in love with apple will not admit the flaws with this ios.

So just dig deep in your pockets and buy another one.

I've done all the research i could.  This is the only solution i've come up with.

I really sympathize with your position, you seem to be a completely reputable seller who was unfortunately caught in a change in Apple iOS security.

I think the new policy is pretty much only a good thing, it prevents trade of stolen phones (I understand ESN numbers can be reported stolen/lost, but GSM phones have no such provision. So prior to this, there was no way to prevent stolen AT&T iPhones from being re-sold and re-used.) In the long run, this should help legitimate sellers such as you, as lost/stolen phones cannot be resold.

Unfortunately, you were caught in the midst of the change as you have a bunch of phones that may have been legitimately acquired, but now cannot be activated without the previous owner's help. This new iOS 7 security feature was announced by Apple prior to its rollout, but I'm not blaming you for not knowing.

I think the best you can do is sell the phones for parts, or disassemble and sell the parts yourself.

So the iPhone recovered an old Apple ID?(this is so strange)

Or you never used a different ID on it?
