I also have this question maybe we can discuss together and help each other,

I am now erasing my HD in disk Utilities in internet recovery modeiMac 2012 OS X 10.8 if you have done this you may know

that if you go to window on the menu bar you have log ,(same as console in Applications) because there is no system Information when you install OS on a blank Volume partition you can get a log .

Read the log is another story.

Each program and code and path and strings that work with each hardware and software application drivers so on get corrupt so the system will try to fix them some are fixed and some are not and we do not know in the future if and when the user will use these applications and change the settings plus the updates and third party applications software will alter the directory all this activity is recorded every single act every single key boot up is recorded every single mouse click what ever is recorded and logged by the clock everything every error fix and diagnostic this also slows the memory

That is why best to do a back to the beginning factory set and erase re install start fro scratch but some system files do not get touched and you HD will show you a clean HD but will hide a lot of data some corrupt and so all this log files are collected and shown to us some of it make sense but look close and time stamps differ bad programmers bugs slight mistakes in the code writing will change the algorithms 0 and 1 will eventually mess up the directory and the software may not find the correct orders and get corrupt

I erased my HD 7 times cycle writing 0 and 1 three times empty the memory complete pram set best to take out the memory put it back in wait a day erase max time takes 1 day 23 hours for a 1 TB HD do that for 2 weeks and completely empty the HD even so there will be a few MB of hidden data somewhere on the untouched system files that

Get you computer to turn on and look for the instructions to work the hardware they say you Need to change the HD and mother board to get yo the Factory state when it first left.

Most of it is trash but look at the date and see error the clock battery is wrong a log must work by time so if you turned on you computer on Monday 1st April 09: 28 2014 and then a short happened that will send the clock to 2000.

Also check your time zone imagined a ball of string getting tangled you must undo the done but you can not know how it was done in the first place, can you go back to when you were born? No All of us are written and our Tongues and hands what ever we did will be recorded by angels left and right shoulder one for the bad one for the good and the balance of the deeds so we are also logged May god have mercy on us all amen
