Why No Sound with Streaming Videos?

I cannot hear any audio from my browser, Safari 6.0.5, from streaming video (You Tube, for instance), and I tried the Firefox browser with the same results. Is there a preference file corruption problem in play here?

It's not a reply to Bronco.

But I have the same problem and I do not want to open another discussion.

None of my browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) works for streaming videos:

a little cross besides the loudspeaker icon.

With Chrome I have:

- suppressed all cookies.

- suppressed all navigation history.

- reset browser initial parameters.

Still no sound with videos on Internet.

My Apple sound parameters are OK: I can listen to music with iTunes.

OSX 10.6.8, Safari 5.1.10

I will try to uninstall all flash files with Mackeeper.

That could well be the problem. If you search any of the Apple forums for "mackeeper" you will see it is practically malware, pushed on people switching from Windoze who were trained that you need third-party help or teh sky will fall

Get rid of Mackeeper and any other third-party utilities that claim to protect, speed up, or clean your Mac.
