Learn about OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages

TS3276 I am unable to send emails from a POP3 email account, though I can receive them. I have tried using different ports for the outgoing smpt server: 25, 587 and neither works. I have contacted my ISP provider who is not blocking port 25 (which was suggested)

I am unable to send emails from a POP3 account on my macbook pro. I can receive them. SMTP outgoing mail server ports 25 and 587 have been tried. I have followed the threads suggesting BT Homehub may be the problem and have adjusted settings. All to no avail. Any help will be gratefully received. All works fine on my IPAD (smpt port 587) and my Iphone. It is simply on the computer that this problem exists. The Apple support information suggested the ISP might be blocking port 25 - I have phone them and they are not doing this. So I am at my wits end!
