Syncing iPhone 5S causes iTunes match issues

I have my iPhone 5S (iOS 7.0.2) set up to sync to my iMac (13,2 running 10.8.5) for backups, photos, videos, and apps. I have iTunes Match enabled for music and iCloud enabled to sync contacts, calendars, notes, etc between various iDevices (another iPhone 5s, two iPhone 4, and an iPad 3) and my iMac. Last night I connected my phone to my iMac for syncing I have come back to find that about 75% of the music in my iPhone playlists show up as needing to be downloaded from Match.

I checked, and every affected song that I looked at was still on my phone but now has a locally stored version and a version with the iCloud symbol next to it. Downloading all the "missing" songs in a playlist doesn't work. As soon as the song has completed downloading the iCloud symbol returns. I confirmed that the playlist doesn't see the songs already on my phone by turning on airplane mode. The songs in my playlist with the iCloud symbol next to them then disappear.

I would really appreciate any suggestions for how to resolve this problem.

Common symptoms include, but are not limited to (including the aforementioned ones above):

1. Download issues for songs.

2. Album Artwork not transferring.

3. Syncing issues w/ iTunes.

4. Delayed/Stalled/Skipped songs whenever user attempts to play them.

In order to solve this, please take these steps:

1. iTunes/iPhone 5(sc) must be updated to the foremost version.

2. Restore your iPhone 5(sc) using iTunes.

3. Finish the initial configuration/setup.

4. Sync with iTunes.

5. Post-Sync, enable iTunes Match/iCloud, etc.

6. Enable automatic Music downloads in your iPhone settings.

Now, when you download or upload an album to your Mac/PC, you will see the downloads for the album occur automatically. iTunes Match is a service which allows you to stream and download uploaded songs remotely. However, I don't believe that it should be your primary choice for transferring songs to your iPhone. In order to get the most out of your iPhone, disable iTM, sync, enable, repeat, whenever possible.
