external hard drive accidentally disconnected
I accidently pulled the wrong plug out of my socket strip, and disconnected my LaCie external hard drive.
It was switched on, but not backing up at the time.
When I plugged it back in, my Mac came up with a warning message that I should only dismount from the Finder ; and something along the lines that it would attempt any necessary repairs.
There have been no further messages : is it safe therefore to assume there was no harm done ?
p.s. it happened apropos of reading about electricity drainage even if certain equipment is switched off, but still plugged in ; and I thought I was unplugging my DAB
- does an external hard drive draw power even if it is switched off at the back, and if so is it OK to unplug it when not in use ?
- these items are all plugged in to a surge protector strip. Is it also OK to disconnect plugs while the strip is switched on ?
