Sent items show twice on MAIL (IMAP)

the solution as i see it, is to change in mail -> preferences -> accounts the last line:

the : Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): to Hotmail, and make sure that the checkbox is enabled (use only this server)

I have the same problem. I don't want to use workarounds, and iyonic5's solution does not work for me (it still leaves 2 entries under sent mails).

This issue is a joke in this day and age. No matter who's to blame, all of them involved should have worked out a solution last year, really.

I found my solution to be: go to phone settings and 'reset network settings' and then I removed and reinstalled my email address in my iphone. the duplicates stopped AND now my Outlook 2013 Calendar will sync with my iPhone 5C!

What DsMalka wrote here earlier seem to work for me.

"I had the same issue with Outlook for Mac and was able to fix it. I went to Outlook/Preferences/Accounts, click on the account and then click on the advanced button at the bottom right. Click on the Folder tab and then make sure "Don't store a copy of sent messages" is checked. Save."

But then it did not! Bummer. Still struggling.

I think I found a solution that is working for me. May be special case though.

I had for ever an issue with my Windows phone (Lumia WOS8) that it always notified I have issues with my account. I was able to read emails but always got the notification to enter my UN & PW. And I was never able to send emails. I was very careful with all settings. Several times.

Finally I got a brilliant idea and I configured my outlook.com account as a hotmail account in my Windows phone. That was yesterday. Today I noticed my MacBookPro mail client duplicates all my outlook.com sent mails. Someone mentioned Hotmail above and I summed 1+1.

I removed my hotmail email account from my Windows phone and now my Mac client does not show duplicates. 🙂

i have this problem on my i messages also, anyone resolving?

go to:

Outlook

Preferences

Accounts

Advanced

Select the tab (Folders)

Select Don’t store a copy in the sent messages.

This will store your sent messages only once.

I hope you've eventually found a solution to this issues raised if not, I suggest you follow the instructions posted by Jontypaine on 19th December 2013. I followed same and had the prob;em fixed on my Mac OS X Yosemite. I hope this solves your problem as well without going through the hassle of configuring your devices as this may compound the problem.

Jontypaine's solution did not work for me. If i try to send an email, Apple mail simply asked me to provide an outgoing smtp server when "none" is selected in preferences. Using gmail as a relay server worked as some described above. However, gmail re-writes your "from" field to your gmail address. So your recipients will reply to your gmail account instead of hotmail. I tried to change the "send mail as" settings in gmail to my hotmail address, this does change the "from" field to my hotmail address, so that recipients will reply to hotmail as intended. However, this also means that if I use gmail to send emails now, the "from" field will also be my hotmail address.

So although this a work around for the duplicate sent problem, it created a few additional kinks for me.

2 years and still no solution .... Nice to both, Microsoft and Apple.

If you don't use Outlook.com mail then the problem does not exist, it's Microsoft, not Apple, or any other mail client for that matter.

That's actually the problem on both sides. On iOS everything is working because iOS mail uses ActiveSync, where on OS X IMAP is used instead. It's something that should be fixed between Microsoft and Apple, not only on Microsoft side.
