Sort photos on 'taken on' date

Dear all,

Finally I made the decision to buy an IMac and I am very happy about it. About the decision and about the IMac :-)

As I use my IMac a lot for photo-processing I ran into the following small issue. Perhaps you, experienced apple-users, can help me out here.

On my windows computer I was used to sort my photos (in explorer) on the date the photo was taken. In 'finder' I don't see the sort-option to do this.

My question is if this is possible. And if "yes", how should I do it?

Many thanks in advance for your reactions.

Kind regards,

Gozotxu

You can't do this in the Finder - the File Manager. It sorts on file metadata. You need to use an app that understands Photo metadata that is written to the Exif of the photo when it is taken.

iPhoto is on your machine already, but there are many other apps you can download or purchase.

I would caution you about apps like iPhoto and Aperture, Lightroom etc. These are all databases geared to non-destructive processing and managing your images. They replace the Finder entirely for working with your images. So, if you're used to a file based method of working there is a conceptual leap you'll need to make. On the upside you'll find a much richer tool set for managing, cataloging, processing and sharing your photos.
