iPhone 4S Won't Charge After iOS7 Update

After updating my 6 month old 4S to iOS 7 it worked fine for about 3 days then it suddenly stopped charging and subsequently died, since then it has been sat on my desk dead as it will not charge what so ever. I have tried 5 different cables and 3 different charging methods, wall, PC and car and the phone detects that the charger is plugged in but doesn't charge. This suggests to me that whatever sends power from the charging socket to the battery is broken. Thoughts?

I can state without any shadow of doubt that ios7 is preventing certain chargers and cables from working with the iPhone 4s.

I just made the mistake of upgrading to ios7 and then tried my backup battery which I've been using for weeks. It doesn't work. I took my daughters 4S just now and it works fine. She told me that it serves me right for upgrading against her advice.

I wonder if I can go back to ios6

Had the exact same problem. Wouldn't do a reset, when at zero charge showed the battery icon with insert cable -- inserting cable changed the display to just the battery -- So the hardware recognized that it was getting charge. Then it would charge to 1 - 4% then stop charging. Forget anyone who says it's a cable issue --

The Apple store folks said "There is no such thing as an IOS7 'approved' cable".

The analyzed the 4S every way -- wouldn't enter DFU mode and thye concluded it was a bug in the firmware.

I know the user can't change the firmware and I doubt that "Candy Crush" could do that.

So what does that leave the IOS perhaps??

They gave me a replacement phone -- case closed.

Do I need your permission to post here?

I've seen your previous comments and I don't understand why you need to be so abrasive.

If someone's phone is charging properly and then it doesn't after he upgrades, it doesn't take much to connect the two.

No need for 300 million supporters.

Whether there is a built in issue with the phone that was only found out when upgrading is possible but either way the immediate cause is the upgrade and I assume Apple is dealing with it.

My posting deal with the charging issue and when someone recommended a restore I enquired if that also knocked it back to ios6. I don't need to ask your permission and I can start another thread without your approval.

Hi. I truely hope this suggestion helps solve the issue!

Everything I've read so far exactly happened to me too. I went to a local tech shop to ask about buying a new battery. He said not to. He suggested trying a 'real' apple cable - the one that comes with the phone. Now, it may have sounded flippant. But in fact I gave been using a 3rd party cable ever since my apple one was either lost or was just too worn and torn (I can't remember which).

But with a new cable from the 'applestore' my 4s works. That means it charges large rely ok! Switching cables resolved the problem.

Needless to say I was happy. But equally I was baffled that the problem was so easily fixed, after originally imagining I'd be forking out 100s of pounds to apple again.

Please do let me know if my suggestion is just one that remedied my problem. Or if in fact it helps solve your headache too.

Good luck, Paul

I had the same problem and was ready to go get a new phone. However, mine snapped out of it. It would only charge via usb to laptop using original cable that came with my phone and also my original car charger, but it charged really slowly. One thing I did was update ITunes to the latest version, got rid of alot of music that I never listed to, synced my phone with ITunes and now it seems fine. It even charges with a cheapy non Apple speaker docking station that I got at Walmart (which it would not do after updating to IOS7)). Not sure if syncing with ITunes is what helped, but i'm happy my phone is back to normal. 🙂
