Oct 5, 2013 8:16 AM in response to gsantosoliverby BobTheFisherman,NTFS is a Windows format. In order for OSX to use the external drive it must be formated for Mac or FAT32. Where did you get the drive? How did you get your data onto the drive? When you reformat the drive your data will be erased.

Oct 5, 2013 9:16 AM in response to BobTheFishermanby gsantosoliver,I have the paragon ntfs for Mac. The external drive was used before in windows and the folders contain backup data, I can not format it without getting access to the folders that have been converted to unix executable file

Oct 5, 2013 9:24 AM in response to gsantosoliverby Eric Root,Probably changed because you are putting them on a drive formatted for Windows. A drive formatted for Mac would be better.
Try control clicking and see if you can get 'Open With'. Try opening in either iPhoto or Preview. I would then save the files on your internal hard drive.

They have not been converted, but Finder can't read the drive's format so they are misreported. If you are using Paragon NTFS you should be able to see them so. Uninstall Paragon, reboot, reinstall Paragon.
