What is the exact model number of your AirPort Express base station? What version of the AirPort Utility are you using? Is it running on a Mac or PC and what is its operating system version (for Windows, please include the Service Pack level).

Is the Express the only router in your current network configuration? If not, what is the make & model of the other router(s)? What is your desired networking goal with the Express?

    Tesserax,

Wow. Thanks for getting back to fast!

Model is A1084. Purchased years ago. Ran fine until I updated Itunes. Then it dropped from system. I have two other airport expresses which I'm using, all three were driving audio in different parts of the house. Main router is Airport Extreme. The other components all work fine. Just the old AE that was dropped.

    Oh, OS is OX Lion.

Are all of the Express base stations the same model? How about the Extreme, what is its model number? Which version of the AirPort Utility are you using on your OS X Lion Mac to administer all of these base stations?

    Thanks for the updates.

Unfortunately you won't be able to use version 6.x of the AirPort Utility to administer the older 802.11g Express and why you are not able to see it with your current utility version. You would have to use the AirPort Utility for Lion 5.6 version for this.

Since this model of the Express does not support 802.11n, you may want to consider replacing it with a newer version.

    tried to download 5.6, won't let me (OS X 10.8.5 (12F37)

I can't understand why I would have to replace a perfectly good device (that cost $100 to begin with).

    tried to download 5.6, won't let me (OS X 10.8.5 (12F37)

Then you're running OS X Mountain Lion, not Lion as you stated.

Version 5.6 will run just fine under Mountain Lion, it just won't install ... without a workaround.

Here are the basic steps to install version 5.6 under OS X Lion (versions 10.7.3 +) or OS X Mountain Lion using CharlesSoft's Pacifist:

    1. If you haven't already download the AirPort Utility disk image file directly from Apple Support Download
    2. Place the resultant AirPortUtility56.dmg file onto your Mac's Desktop.
    3. Run Pacifist.
    4. Click on the Open Package option. Find the disk image file that you just placed on your desktop, and then, click on Open.
    5. The utility is located as follows: Contents of AirPortUtility56.dmg > Contents of AirPortUtility56.pkg > Contents of AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6.app
    6. Drag AirPort Utility 5.6.app to your Mac's /Applications/Utilities folder.

You can now run the AirPort Utility from the Utilities folder.
