My songs are HIDDEN! Still in iPod, though invisible- how to retrieve?!
This seems to be a common problem, but all answers I've read about so far have been of no help. Restoring my iPod is NOT an option I want to take.
BASIC PROBLEM: Songs have disappeared off my iPod.
HOW IT HAPPENED: For some reason, different CD's album art won't display when my iPod is unplugged. If I pick a certain album on my iPod through ITunes, the art is there. Once I unplug the pod, it doesn't show.
To fix the problem, I chose the "display Album Art" option from the Ipod section of "Preferences" under the ITunes' "EDIT" folder.
When I did this, ITunes said "DELETING ALBUM ART FROM IPOD", and my iPod icon on the left side of Itunes started flashing black and red (reminded me of the countdown timer in the hatch on LOST).
Then it said "UPDATING ALBUM ART", but some error message flashed up and said it couldn't update. Then, when I clicked on my iPod, all my songs had DISAPPEARED.
I unplugged my iPod, and yep, all the songs were gone.
But now here's the strange thing: Both ITunes and the iPod itself (under the "About" menu) say I have used 10 gigs of memory. That's all I've been able to put on my pod so far- 10 gigs of music.
So, obviously, my music is still there, albeit apparently invivsible.
WHAT I'VE DONE TO FIX IT: I've updated my iPod. That didn't do anything.
I restarted the iPod. Still nothing.
I even followed these instructions from a post down below titled "Lost all songs when downloading" posted by GRAMPY:
" As far as I am awear they are all gone but you can try the following steps
1. open iTunes
2. open preferences in itunes(leave the preferences menu open)
3. connect the ipod(wait about 15secs be for connecting)
4. open "my computer"
5. Click the tools tab, folder options, view tab click enable 'show hidden files/folders'
6. In the "my computer"menu click on your ipod
7. open the ipod_control
8. there should be a folder called "music" this is where your music is stored if it is still on your ipod if its not there or empty your music is gone"
I did this and AHA! My Music IS STILL THERE! It's in that folder!
So I've deduced my iPod still has music on it, and THAT's why restoring the iPod is not an option. I don't want to lose everything I've put on there. Some of the music comes from my friends' computers (I don't have my own working comp at home), and a friend of mine put some of his home videos on there. Well, that friend has moved to Denver, CO as of 2 weeks ago, so simply going to his house to restore all the videos is not viable.
I don't want to lose everything and start from scratch. I don't have the luxury of most pple by having all my music on one computer at home-- mine is stretched out across different homes.
So my music's not lost, it's still there. All I need now is help figuring out how to restore it, to get my iPod to recognize it, to bring it back from invisibility.
Please, anyone, everyone, can you help? Do you have any knowledge of how to fix this?
Thanks for your help,
Chris
