Any of these apps can be used to add text to a photo as well as Preview.


Some Image Editors That Support layers:


Photoshop Elements 11 for Mac - $79Rainbow Painter - $30
Imagerie - $38
Acorn - $50

Pixelmator - $60

Seashore - Free

GIMP for Mac - Free

Xee 2.1 - free


Also any watermarking app can do the job also. Go to MacUpdate.com and search for "watermark".

Yes - as noted use the annotate feature of preview -


you can either


1 - set preview as teh external editor and use it to edit directly form iphoto


or 2 - export the photo, Open it in preview, use preview to edit it and then import the photos into iPhoto


In either case once the photo is open in preview use the Tool menu ==> annontate ==> text and dra a text box wherer you want the text and type it then save the photo
