I have an old second generation iPod and i can't seem to connect to the app store....Please help! I would really like to download some new things.

Try:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
Try updating the iPod. Yur 1G can go to 3.1.3 by:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)

To more easily find compatible apps:

iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Vintapps 3.1.3 - paid app.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
