Tether iPad to Mac when recording video?

I thought 32GB would be enough but after recording some video for an hour or two it fills up.

Can I tether my iPad to my iMac so the file goes strait to a larger HDD (i.e. completely bypassing the iPad itself) so I can record even more?

Well I tried a couple of different things with my iPhone right now. iMovie / Final Cut Pro X / Adobe Suite did not let me tether it as a camera. If I find anything else that works I will let you know.
