iMac reboots during Time Machine backup to Time Capsule

My iMac 2011 running 10.8.5 recently started having a kernal panic every time I try to back up to my Time Capsule via Time Machine. This is just after I had gotten an error saying my backup was bad and suggested creating a new one:

"Time Machine completed a verification of your backups. To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you."

A new backup was created but it crashed, for the first time, around the end of the backup. So right now the iMac seems to be stable as long as I have Time Machine backups turned off. Im debating if I should erase the backup and try again or if I should get another backup device. Has anyone ran into this before?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5

Please post the kernel panic. It can be found in Console under System Diagnostic Messages.

Since Time Machine needed to create a new backup, the old one is gone and you have nothing to lose by erasing the backup volume using AirPort Utility. A corrupted Time Machine disk image can cause a kernel panic, and I know of at least one occasion in which a kernel panic would occur every time TM encountered a corrupted file on the source volume. Deleting the file solved that problem.

Recurring "Time Machine must create a new backup for you" messages can also indicate a failing Time Capsule disk drive, but there are other potential reasons. If the kernel panic occurs again, post the entire kernel panic report in a reply.

Removing VirusBarrier is one potential solution, but despite the fact that everyone's focus seems to be on that, it's only one possible culprit. There are other possibilities. The Logitech USB driver and the two sound drivers (from Parallels and Ambrosia Software) could also be causing issues here. Ideally, you should remove these things one at a time and see when the problem goes away.

Once the kernel panics are gone, you probably should start a brand new backup. I wouldn't do that until after you have solved the kernel panic issue.

Only to the hyper-sensitive.

The primary focus is the Time Machine issue noted by John.

However, the next options are any third-party kexts.

The Logitech drivers have been clean for some time. I don't suspect them.

I don't see how Ambrosia's Audio program would affect Time Machine, but is also possible.

Intego is the most likely candidate if it is not the TM issue.

The final possibility is hardware, which can only be ruled in with a clean kext load.

I've uninstalled Intego and now my iMac can make backups from Time Machine to my Time Capsule again without having a kernal panic.

Thanks to everyone here for the assistance.

I suspect that an update to Intego or perhaps a file/process that it couldnt handle was causing this kernal panic. Its safe to say that im done with Intego and will stick with ClamXav instead.
