Q: mail Trash icon woes --need help

I have an iPhone 4 -- dearly love the phone. Since updating with iOS 7.0.2, however, I have struggled with deleting mail from inbox. Trash can icon has disappeared from options to delete. Tried several suggestions for restoring active trash icon -- no luck.  In the meantime, email messages are stacking up for inbox.

Wonder if there is a keyboarding shortcut to delete selected emails for inbox. If possible, that would be best news of all.  :-)
