My Trash won't empty. It is stuck in "preparing to empty the trash" ---

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Relaunch the Finder and try again.

I'm having the same problem. I try to empty the trash (a file that is less than 1M) and it says there are 10's of thousands of files to delete!! Where did that come from? Then it just keeps turning "preparing to delete".
If I relaunch the finder will work once. If I want to empty the trash again it gets stuck "preparing" and the only way to stop it is to restart the computer.

What can I do?
