Image Capture shows no devices

Hi,

I have a MacBook Air (2012) running Mac OS X 10.8.5, 1.8GHz Intel Core i5, with 4GB ram.

I have a Cannon MP510, it shows up on the list of printers in the System Preferences.

I am connecting the printer/scanner to my MacBook Air using a USB cable.

However it does not show up when I open Image Capture.

I cant seem to scan anything.

Note that the scanner does work with my old windows 7 laptop, so it is just the Mac that doesnt want to work with it.

How can I input an image using the Cannon MP510 scanner mode to my Mac?

Regards,

For clarification, when you go to Print & Scan do you see both the printer and scanner or just the printer?

Have you tried getting Canon's driver for the scanner http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_s eries/pixma_mp510#DriversAndSoftware

Just saw you said you did this in your second post.

Hi,

Yes it shows under "System Preferences->Print & Scan", I have also tried deleting/removing the printer from Print & Scan rebooting and the printer showed up again after the reboot.

I have had a look at: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2293294?answerId=10873952022#10873952022 Before posting.

The USB cable works with the Windows 7 laptop.

Unfortunately I dont have Photoshop for Mac to try that.

I have also tried deleting some Image Capture Plist files (resulted in me not being able to launch Image Capture) but have restored Image Capture using Pacifist and it is back again but still showing no devices.

I have also tried installing the MP510 drivers from Cannon's website (I dont note any difference and the printer still shows up in Print & Scan as before but not in Image Capture).

I am connecting the MP510 to the MBA using a USB cable and the MP510 is in scan mode, set to "Save to PC".

If Print & Scan can see the MP510 how can I get Image Capture to see the MP510 so that I can capture an image?

Hi,

Print & Scan only shows the printer.

However I went to the European Cannon website which seems less clear than the USA one, so I may have just downloaded the printer scanners.

I have downloaded the scanner drivers from your link, Apple also had a Cannon update for me, so I have updated and down a restart.

Print & Scan still only shows the printer.

However Image Capture now shows the Scanner and I have been able to scan!
