Files that were dragged to my desktop from a sim card have been deleted through iMovie

I put in my sim card and dragged the files I needed onto my desktop. I opened imovie and I accidentally clicked something that said "delete copied files" or something like that and then all of my files were deleted off of my desktop. Can i recover them without downloading a recovery software?
