What is the staff group in folder permissions?

Hi guys,

When I click "Get Info" on any file or folder on my system, it says that "staff" can read the contents of my folders. This concerns me, because I connect to my high school's network. (It's not just an internet network, it allows me to access devices on the school's network, like printers) Does this mean that people who are in the user group "staff" at school can read my files?

'Staff', in a company situation would be a member of the company's staff. This is a group that Unix systems tend to give to users until a multi-user system has so many different departments using the system that you need separate groups for each department.

If you have other users on your system, then by default they would also be a member of 'staff'.

If you do not have any other users on your system, then it doesn't matter, as you are the ONLY 'staff' member.
