I have a Imac G5 that was given to me. When you start it up you only get a folder with a flashing question mark. Put in a hard drive. What OS will it take.

I have a Imac G5 model A1076 20 inch that was given to me without a hard drive. When you try to turn it on it only displays a floder with a flashing question mark. Put in a hard drive with the same results. If a OS is needed what one could I put in this Imac that would let it work it is a non Intel model 2004. Thanks

If you are in the US call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a reasonable fee, they will supply a replacement set of system discs (if available).

The discs will be for the original version of the OS that was pre-installed when the Mac was manufactured.
