This is typically caused by both devices sharing an Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime. I would recommend signing out of iMessage on both devices. Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out. Then sign in with the desired Apple ID on each device.
