Q: My iPhone 5 keeps saying sim card failure.

My iPhone 5 started saying 'Sim Card Failure" in July 2013. It used to happen 3 or 4 times a day. I was on holiday at the time so I didnt really mind. When I got back home, I got a sim swop and that seemed to help. Until two days ago when the phone started saying "Sim Card Failure" again. Happened twice three times in the space of 2 hours. Is this a hardware fault or sim card issue? I bought the phone online and we only have an iStore (not an Apple Store) in South Africa. How does one get this fixed?

If you have tried different SIM cards it is most likely a hardware failure, or dirt in the SIM card slot. Try inspecting it with a magnifying glass with the card out. If you can't see any dirt or you cant clean it (try an air blast) the phone will need repair.
