What maximum resolution i can get through MiniDisplayPort to VGA?

can i get 2560x1080 i.e.?

or better to use MDP->MDP or MDP->DVI?

MBAs from late 2008 support up to 2560 x 1600 resolution. The prior model supports 1920 x 1200 resolution. Use what ever connector the external monitor requires. A single cable without any adapters is the best alternative.
