ipv6 Connection to 3801HGV

2Wire 3801HGV connects to vDSL network. I have cabeled an AirPort Extreme (7.6.4) on the ethernet and am using for Wireless, supporting Apple connectivity functions as well as network backup. All running IPV4.

The ethernet for the 3801HGV is using a private IP network with NAT to the Internet. The AirPort Extreme uses a static IPV4 address to connect with the 3801HGV. The LAN for the AirPort uses a different private IP network with NAT back to the 3801HGV (double NAT).

My MacBook Pro uses a static IPV4 address to the ethernet of the 3801HGV. The 3801HGV automatically assigns an IPV6 address to the MacBook Pro.

Here is the issue: Why doesn't the 3801HGV assign an IPV6 to the AirPort?

Don't say ask 2Wire because as an Apple consumer I would expect both the MacBook and the Airport to offer the same IP capabilities overall. The AirPort's internet options are set for automatic IPV6 configuration in native mode and the MacBook is set for Automatic IPV6.

If your ISP supports IPv6 then you should be able to set this up with the modem passing an IPv6 IP to the airport.. but most ISP are still running ipv4 and only a very few are experimenting with ipv6 because quite frankly most of our current equipment does not work very well. Even then most ipv6 will be tunnelled over ipv4. For now it is usually better to stick with v4.. but check with ISP if you can get ipv6 IP.

The ISP supports IPV6 supplying the 3801HGV router with an IPV6 address and DNS server.

There are IPV6 test sites that you can go to for testing your IPV6 capabilities. The test results from the MacBook all indicate IPV6 connectivity.

I suspect that the AirPort IP stack is just doing something less than the MacBook IP stack, thus no IPV6 address assignment for AirPort.

There was a few changes to the ipv6 setup in the airport that caused issues..

I do not have ipv6 ISP so I have yet to explore this area.

Here is some info I have gathered.. about the last disastrous apple firmware update.

Turn off ipv6 to solve issues.
