Brazilian Portuguese Keyboard
How can I set it up? I tried the language and text area and apparently it sets you up with Brazilian Portuguese ( you see the flag) yet the keyboard is no different than the American.
Any ideas ?
Thanks

E) Buy a Brazilian ABNT2 hardware keyboard and connect it to your MacBook. The special keyboard layout software required can be downloaded from

What is it that you want exactly? The special characters required for Portuguese can be made just fine with the layout called US, or the layout called Brazilian, or the layout called US International PC, or the layout called Portuguese. You choose the one you want to use via system preferences/language & text/input sources.
Do you need instructions about how to make the characters with one of these? Or do you already know which key you want to do what and just need the keyboard to obey that?
I actually read some of the postings on this same subject. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a solution.
It sounds like everyone with the same question had the same issue - you are able to select the brazilian flag under the input sources but that's the same as an english keyboard. No difference whats so ever.
I would like a Brazilian Portuguese keyboard with characters. I see the US international but really it's not simple or convenient to use neither does it have all the characters.
Thanks for your reply. Appeciate it.
Here are instructions for the 4 most common ways that people type Portuguese. All them them can make all of the characters. It's is up to you to decide which one you want to use.
A) With the US flag showing at the top right of the screen: hold down the key for the base letter and select the accented version you want from the popup menu which appears.
B) With the Brazilian flag or the US flag showing at the top right of the screen: Use the keyboard shortcuts provided on this page:
http://symbolcodes.tlt.psu.edu/bylanguage/portuguese.html#macaccent
C) With the US flag that has the PC underneath it at the top right of the screen: Use the shortcuts provided by this page:
http://symbolcodes.tlt.psu.edu/accents/codeint.html
D) With the Portuguese flag at the top right of the screen: Use Keyboard Viewer to see which key does what or use this chart. The orange keys are for accents -- you type them first and then type the vowel.
Just ask again if in one of these methods there is some character you need to make but cannot.
