Q: iCloud Mail keeps freezes while composing emails

I am working on a decent PC (in an office with very fast broadband) using iCloud Mail in the latest Chrome browser.

Whenever I compose a new email (or compose a reply) things regularly freeze up for 10 to 30 seconds while I'm typing - which basically makes it unusable.

I have tried Firefox and Explorer (the PC does not have Safari) and the same thing happens.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Any help much appreciated!!

PC, Windows 7

Did you have any luck with Apple support?

Not really.  I did give them this tread and tell them that searches on twitter will show that others are having the issue.  I also told them that it is affecting me on multiple machines (win 7 and os x).  The did bring in a senior tech for advice but there was nothing they could do for me immediately.  They agreed with me that it may be a Chrome issue caused by a backrgound update because they were not adivsed to any changes being made recently to the service.  This release would coincide approximately with the date the problems started for me:

    http://googlechromereleases.blogspot.com/2014/04/stable-channel-update.html

In the mean time, Chrome Canary (beta channel) is still working well for me.  It runs secondary to Chrome (stable) so there is no need to uninstall or change anything there and you can sign into Canary and it will be just like your Chrome (stable) and sync any changes made while using Canary (extensions, bookmarks, etc.)  The one problem is you cannot make it your default browser because it is beta and Google disallowed it, but I have had no trouble once it is up and running.

What version of Chrome is everyone running?

Menu button --> About Google Chrome --> Version

I have 34.0.1847.116 (same as the release mentions above)

My problem too... using Chrome Version 34.0.1847.116 and email in icloud freezes after a short amount of time.  NOw I compose the email outside chrome and paste it in.  Not very happy about that.

This has been happening this entire week to me as well. I'm using Chrome 34.0.1847.116 m

It works for a minute or two then it freezes up. Is there any way to get Apple to actually look at these comments?

I called them yesterday night and gave them the tread.  The tech talked about it with a senior tech, so I do think they are aware of it.

I have the same version of Chrome as the others.  Worked fine for months.  This week, I can no longer use iCloud.  Keeps freezing up.  Have to close it and reopen about every 10 seconds.  Not functioning at all.

Happening to me as well and started aorund 10 or so days ago. Driving me crazy as can't do anything on laptop so resorting to using my phone for emails just now as that seems to be the ony place it doesn't crash.

This is apparently a Google Chrome Issue and Background Refresh Related... Google Canary seems to work and resolves the issue

I've had exactly the same issue for over a year now. I have tried various versions of Chrome, FireFox, IE (which looses all keypresses from the time of the freeze) and even Safari but all exhibit the same problem. It appears to be hanging in some javascript codeICloudFreezing.png.

I'm extremely dissapointed in Apples stance on this - they have not taken any action on this that I've been able to see.

It's got to the point where I cannot use it anymore. The fact they are ignoring us just makes me feel their company policy is to never admit their mistakes. The fact that it has never been fixed brings me very close to never buying another iPhone, iPad, Mac or support Apple in any way - they are not supporting us.

Please - if there is any chance that someone is able to help me/us with this I am prepared to spend time with them to go through and isolate the problem - I'm a programmer so may be able to help.

Apple - please contact me. If you do help us sort this problem out I will be your strongest supporter!
