iPhone 4 loses signal when sending text message (SMS)

iPhone 4, iOS 6.1. Don't tell me to upgrade to iOS 7.

Recently my iphone keeps losing signal whenever I send a text message. It drops bars, loses signal and then searches for mobile networks. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks. Please see screenshots below.
