Is there a way to highlight PDFs in iBooks? I have reports I am reading and would like to highlight parts of them. If not what's my other options? Printing would be a lot of paper. So I'm looking for a simpler way to do research and notations on important information for my work. Suggestions please.

That article is titled "How to highlight and annotate books with iBooks for iPhone and iPad" and does not appear to address PDF's in iBooks. In fact the first comment is "i don't believe any of this applies to PDF's."
iBooks has never allowed annotation of PDFs. I would recommend either GoodReader or iannotate for marking up PDFs.
iBooks actually did used to permit the highlighting of text, I remember doing it with PDFs (though getting these off the iPad was difficult). The only time this would not be allowed if it was scanned, so the pages were images. With the latest version of iBooks though it doesn't seem to be possible with anything except iTunes bought e-books.
iBooks currently does not support text highlighting for PDFs.
It does allow support editing for the epub format however.
If you need to highlight a pdf, use another app. I use Easy Annotate myself and can recommend it.
Apple delivering no on board solution to highlight and annotate PDF files is ridiculous! This must be some april fools joke, but sadly it's not.
You would think, with the advent of apple pencil and the new ipad pro, that they'd think of editing pdf using ibooks with the new tools.. Or they're trying to get ways to make us pay more.

So exactly how would that work? As previously indicated in the thread, there are several app that handle highlighting and annotation of PDF files available in the app store. Many of them are free. So, no, this isn't a way to get you to pay more money for anything.
I have found a solution for Mac (not ipad, etc.).
You can set up Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat as your default program, instead of using preview.
Then, whenever you open a pdf file from ibooks, it'll open the file using those programs - then you can highlight, edit, etc.
This will not save your spot, i.e. when you stopped reading at page 32 then close, it will not go back to page 32 when you reopen the pdf.
I haven't tried syncing the file to other devices yet. I'll repost later.. or someone else can.
You can highlight in preview too on the mac, that's why it seems so strange that there's no built-in way to do it on the ipad.
So is there way to petition Apple for this feature to return? I would also appreciate the ability for note taking.....
Now it is possible with Apple Pencil and 10.5 I pad pro you can annotate and highlight in I books.
