I just updated my macbook from snow leopard to mountain lion by using the update on the app store and the disc that came with the computer with the snow leopard programming on it would not work because I updated my ram. I was hoping I could wipe my hard drive clean and free up space on my hard drive. The macbook has no information on it (no photos music etc) and only has 29 GB free out of 159.18. I want to solve this problem. Please help!
spend $65 on a 1TB HD,... clone your internal HD to target new HD,... install same and youll have 850 MORE gig. 😊
Boot into recovery mode. This, in a sense, replaces the function of the OSX installation CDs as of Lion.
To boot into recovery mode hold Command + R at the chime.
Open Disk Utility > Select the boot partition > Erase.
Go back to the main window and Reinstall OSX on the primary partition.
The option to erase isnt clickable....only to erase free space
The operating system will not allow you to erase the disk that it is running from.
In order to do thst you must boot from another device
