Moon Phase Widget no longer shows the Moon

I've just noticed that one of the dashboard widgets I have installed, which should show a picture of the Moon's current phase is no longer shoing the Moon at all!

All that is there now is a background of stars with a white frame in it, the text 'Current Moon Image' and a small blue square with a white question mark in it.

I've tried removing that widget and replacing it, but it still only shows the same thing.

Does anyone know ho to get the Moon back please?

Could it be related to the shutdown?

I also have APOD viewer widget installed and it, too, is broken.

APOD widget relies on NASA feeds which have been shutdown. Apparently, though, the actual APOD does NOT depend upon NASA, so that different apps/widgets could still work-- if they fetched their info from other than NASA.

In any event, I share your pain-- for amateur astronomy and telescope purposes, wish that it were always NO MOON!

I've had this widget installed... http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/information/moonphase_udellenterprisesi nc.html

But it decided to stop showing the moon phase, just a "?" mark. Then all of sudden the Dashboard process would start using a lot of my CPU resources, as much as 120%. On a 2011 and 2012 Mac Mini. Deleted that widget and the Dashboard process has been fine ever since.

All this happened a month ago, so way before the gov shut down.

Yep, government back up and running and the Moon Phase widget still shows no Moon. Alas, wish it were new Moon, but that big bright ball in the sky the last few nights confirmed this widget is broken. Too bad as it is was quick, clean, and simple!

I installed "Lunar Phase" instead. It shows upcoming key phases (mini-versions) in additon to the Big Moon. Alas, though, the dates are too small to read!

If you have any other leads on a good Moon widget, please post for the rest of us!

Yes it does help, thank you.

The links that I've posted are for widgets in the Dashboard too, but they are just through Apple's App store.

Have you noticed any CPU usage from it? I ask, because the widget that I used before would use a lot of cpu. Whether the Mac was idle or not. This was the case on both of my Mac Minis. As soon as I deleted the widget, both Macs were at ease. Although it took a few days for the cpu usage to show up.

Yup, I too kept on killing the process. Only to have it come back a few minutes later.

I was lucky enough to have iStat pro installed and was able to view the history of my CPU history, up to a year I think. And the usage went up a day or two after install. I also installed it on another Mac, but a week later. And when I saw the CPU usage go up on both Macs a day or two after install. I immediately remove that widget and things went back to normal.

So far this new app hasn't done anything bad. :-)

I've had the same problem with Moon Phase for a couple months it seems; yes, way before the govt shutdown. Today I trashed it and tried to download. Two attempts but kept getting server error or something. I guess it's broken and/or the developers have given up on it. Apple shouldn't keep it as a download if something's wrong with it, especially since it's been problematic for so long.

At any rate, thanks for the Lunar Phase link. Works well so far, and it shows future phases; cool.
