Print Selection

How do I "Print Selection," as on a PC, so that I don't have to print the whole page or frame?

Thanks,
Matt

A few ways you can go about this, and it's by no means an exhaustive list.

You can take a 'selection' screenshot using 'Grab' (/Applications/Utilities/) or by using the keyboard shortcuts denoted in the 'Keyboard & Mouse' preference pane, and print that out. Or you can print the page out as a PDF and use Reader or Preview to print a selection off.

How can I use that to copy a selection to clipboard? Once I've got my selection on the clipboard, how do I print it?

Once you initiate the keyboard shortcut, your cursor should change into a crosshair allowing you to highlight an area of the screen. Once the selection is made, the image is saved in your clipboard, allowing you to paste it into your application of choice e.g. Photoshop, TextEdit, MSWord, etc, for further manipulation, after which you can print it off.

Alternatively, use the Cmd Shift4 combination to immediately save the selection as an image file (to your desktop). Opening it should allow you to print it off immediately. To change the default format of screenshots, refer to this article [macosxhints].
