lock symbol on screen?

I have the ipone4. In the upper right hand corner, to the left of the battery symbol, I have a lock stmbol with a circle around it. What is this?

iPhone 4, iOS 7.0.2

I believe that is the landscape or potrait lock.

double tap the home button swipe left to right until you see the music controls and then hit the first icon to disable.

On iOS 7, to get rid of it, swipe UP from the bottom of any screen, and the lock will be the far right icon on the top, just tap it to turn it on/off
