Q: "No SIM" on iPad 2 after upgrade to iOS7

I can't believe that several dozen iPads all have a SIM card reader malfunction at the same time and coincidentally right after they upgrade to iOS7.  Is Apple doing anything to rectify this situation?  I want my iOS6 back!

Thanks for your reply.  The "No SIM" icon appeared right after I upgraded to iOS7.  I followed the instructions about resetting the iPad, turning airplane mode on and off, resetting the SIM card.  None of this helped, so I went to the Apple store, where they tried all of the above, and even installed a new SIM card. They decided it was a bad SIM card slot.  I contacted the Apple hot line and talked with the for an hour and fifteen minutes.  After resetting the iPad back to its original factory settings and bringing back up, they cam to the same conclusion: bad so card slot.

Pardon my cynicism, but it seems strange that so many early iPad and iPhone owners would have the same hard ware problem right after upgrading o iOS7.

Does anyone know if Apple is working on a software fix, or is this a plot to get us to buy new iPads?

i have had this problem too.  I have had an Ipad 2 since October of 2011 (I think) and have an unlimited data plan.  I got the No Sim error about a week after upgrading.   I have tried everything -- upgrading to the .X version of IOS 7 did the trick for a little while.  Went to ATT and got a new sim card - didn't work.  Came home and reset my Ipad - worked fine for about a week - now happening again. Unless I reset, I can't get it to turn back on - DFU cold boot, reset network settings, airplane mode....  Going to take it to the Apple store tonight and see what they can do (I am not optimistic).  It is important to note, and I am going to emphasize that I never, never, never had a problem with this IPAD until after the upgrade.  I won't accept any other answer at this point.  I am hoping that Apple does come through and fixes this somehow or gives us a reasonable opportunity to upgrade to newer machines.

I went last night.  Per the genius, they are aware of the issue at least.  It was escalated to engineering and I am supposed to get an update over the weekend.  I offered to swap my pad as an engineering sample if they want it.  Still not optimistic.   The only direction they said was to start from scratch - complete reset and reinstall apps one by one.

So no status update today from Apple.  However, when I went to restore my IPAD tonight (hitting the road again tomorrow), I went to turn off Find my IPad first - because you have to - and then I decided to cold boot and just see what happens.  When I did this, and turned it back on, the Ipad saw the sim card again.  Interesting.  If Apple engineers are reading this, this may be a lead to fix the problem.

No SIM card installed error......Having exactly same issues. Ipad 2, ios 7.03, VIRGINBROADBAND Australia. No issues at all until ios 7. Updates haven't addressed the problem. Initially solved by airplane mode toggle. Now nothing. Tried several sims that I know are valid. Intermittent, random connection but of decreasing regularity. Is downgrading to 6 even possible? VERY FRUSTRATED... of course, ipad is now out of warranty.... Come on Apple, we need a solution!

The Apple Genius did agree to replace my two using the battery exchange program which was fine with me as the machines display had problems and they would not address out of warranty the time I tried before that.

I haven't heard anything from the Apple Communities.  Prior to your post the last message was from JTKX.  If this was a plot from Apple to get me to buy an iPad Air...it worked.  I need it to much for my business as a flight instructor, and I don't always have WiFi availabiltiy.  I wonder what the new Ipad 2's are using for an iOS?

Just saw where someone with an iPhone 5 that upgraded to iOS7 had the same problem, but solved it by cleaning the sim card with rubbing alcohol.  You could try that.

In this case it was a SIM problem. But I tested my sim in a phone and it workd well. I tested another SIM in my iPad also and the problem persists. So, its not a SIM related problem.

the same no sim card installed error happened to my iPad 2 today after 2-3 weeks of iOS7 upgrade....tried every method mentioned here but nothing seems to work. Seriously hoping Apple can sort this out ASAP.
