Q: "No SIM" on iPad 2 after upgrade to iOS7

I can't believe that several dozen iPads all have a SIM card reader malfunction at the same time and coincidentally right after they upgrade to iOS7.  Is Apple doing anything to rectify this situation?  I want my iOS6 back!

I have the same problem, please help.

Since I upgraded my Ipad 2 to IOS 7, I am getting a message no Sim Card. I tried:

    1. Ejecting and re-inseriting the sim card

    2. Restoring the Ipad

    3. Switchin Airplaned mode on and off, which worked maybe a few times

    4. Resetting network settings

    In Need of Advice

    Cheers from Venezuela

I have the original iPAD, and my husband has the iPAD 2, both of us got the "no SIM card" mesage at the same time about a week ago.  I rebooted, and it seemed to help, but the next day it was back to the "no SIM card" again.  Hard to believe BOTH iPADS SIM card readers would malfunction at the exact same time- incidentially right after updating!

Hi has anyone found any solution to this, can get it working for a day after taking out and reinserting many many times.  Can't help but think that sounds like a physical problem but only ever happened after upgrade to iOS 7.

Currently stuck on holiday with "no sim" message so no data!  Tried for last two days to get it going again but to no avail!

    Hi Venkinikki,

    i'm starting thinking as you..

I had real good time with my Ipad 2 but since latest IOS updates, i lost all my fun with it

I think Apple wnat to force the people to buy new Apple products instead of helping us with this issue...

This week i'll start shopping for something else than Apple!!!

I really need reliable product, i'm allway on trip for my work and Wifi is not anywhere yet...

Samsung start sounds good in my mind too...

    thanks you all

Ok, so what I did was ordered a replacement sim tray from ebay.

I wasn't expecting it to change anything as it had mysteriously happened when upgrading to iOS 7 but as it was a cheap item thought why not.

It arrived today, swapped, and straight away it read the sim.

In my case (now running (iOS 7.1.1) I can only imagine that the regular taking out of the sim, reinserting etc had caused a problem, and in the meantime the later 7.x updates may have fixed the software bug.

I am not confident it will keep working but let's see.

Well, I take it all back, went to the ipad which had just been sitting on the side, not switched off, just ticking away....

Anyway it now says "no-sim" again!  Really frustrating apple - I used to love my ipad, now its just an irritation.

Mine started doing this after the lastest update last week.  Tied everything listed above, except getting a new sims card, and only worked for an hour or less.  Took it to Apple Genius today.  They said software was fine and that it may be that the sims card is not making a good connection.  Funny, I told him, it messed up after the last update and was work great since I bought it until now.

The guy said I needed to either,  get a replacement Ipad 2 for $245 since by Ipad is out of warranty OR get a new Ipad.  He briefly mentioned the replacement but really pushed on me getting a new Ipad.

Come on Apple make your product work.

I had the "no SIM" problem intermittently (upon upgrading to a version of 7.0.x) and also had WiFi problems that were causing panics/reboots on my iPad2.  I had done the 7.0 upgrade via WiFi (not via iTunes with a cable).  Not sure if it helped, but I did a backup, then completely wiped my iPad out with a fresh factory install of 7.0.6 (that was the version available at the time) and then did a restore.  It seemed to help, since both the "no SIM" problem and the WiFi issues aren't occurring any more.  I've heard rumors that there are some issues with upgrading iOS versions via WiFi.  Worth a try before replacing the iPad.

I too upgraded to 7 and all iterations following via wifi so thought I would give this a try last night.

Connected to PC (updated itunes), backed up, then restored, it flashed the ipad, rebooted but straight away no-sim was displayed, restored the backup but unfortunately still says no-sim.

Really frustrating, so many appear to have this problem....

Same here. Really frustrating. Turning Airplane mode on and off makes the iPad suddenly "find" the SIM Card, but only untill it sleeps.

I have owned this iPad 2 for about 3 years but have never used my sim function but this week I decided to go away on holidays so thought I'd buy an iPad sim for obvious reasons and you guessed it it didn't work. So I have paid $30 for nothing and also been charged excess data so that I can download the latest update thinking that of course Apple would have fixed the issue and they haven't! So needless to say that buyer confidence in Apple is falling fast as their after sales service seems to be lacking some, I really hope I'm wrong but this is costing me lots of money, time etc I don't think it's too much to ask for a product to do what it is supposed to, especially since we are all on the Apple forum informing them of our situation and looking for an answer. Come on Apple please talk to your loyal paying customers and faith in your great innovative products will be restored. Thanks guys!

A friend took out the SIm and tray, cleaned it carefully, and it starts to work!

So thats how much "hardware" error it was.

Can I ask how your friend cleaned the SIM reader?  Had a quick look - looks a bit fiddly and dont want to cause damage.
